3 Common Designs of Pocket Knives

Posted by Paul on 11th May 2016

Picking out a pocket knife is a matter of choice and preference but most of us want something that looks and feels good, is comfortable and offers the optimum performance. Based on this you can classify pocket knives into three different categories- pen knives, jack knives and Swiss Army knives. Have a look at each one of them:

• Jack knife:

A jack knife is mostly used by hunters, fishermen and campers. The knife may have one or more than one blade and a hinge on one end of the handle.

• Pen knife:

Unlike the jack knife, a pen knife has a hinge on both the ends of the handle. This type of knife also has multiple blades (2 to 3) at each end of the handle. Although it was traditionally created with an intention of sharpening the pen quill, it has evolved over the time to serve as a multipurpose tool. The knife is popular for its small and compact size and lightweight.

• Swiss Army knives:

Swiss Army knives are the most popular pocket knives. These are multipurpose knives that have can openers, nail filers, tweezers, screw drivers, scissors and a plethora of other tools along with knife blades. These knives are mostly used in camping trips and scout guides.
