3 Tips on How to Hold a Kitchen Knife the Right Way!

A kitchen knife is one of the most important tools you will ever need in your kitchen. A good quality knife makes your work easier and offers you an amazing cooking experience. But if you are not holding and using the knife correctly you are increasing the chances of accidentally hurting your fingers and also increasing the cooking time. Here are three tips on how to hold and use a kitchen knife correctly:

  • The best way to hold a knife is to keep your hand in a relaxed position. Choke up on the knife while keeping your arms in a relaxed position. It is important to hold the knife correctly before you start cutting anything- thumb and forefinger pinching the blade and not wrapping the handle.
  • The movement of the knife should be sliding and fluid rather than a staccato rhythm. This happens only when you keep your hands relaxed.
  • Perfection comes only with practice. Once you have learnt the basics of using a knife correctly, practice over and over again. Mince garlic, chop celery and dice onions repeatedly to perfect the skill. With the right use of a kitchen knife you reduce your cooking time, avoid hurting your fingers and improve your cooking.
