Posted by Kevin on 8th Apr 2016

You don’t need to buy those 42 in one knife sets to meet your every day kitchen requirements. By choosing these useful knives alone you can do most of your daily kitchen tasks easily. Have a look at the 6 must-have kitchen knives and how to buy them:

Chef’s knives:

When buying chef’s knife choose a forged knife. The blade should measure 8-10 inches and there should be perfect balance between the blade and the handle. Don’t go for a smaller knife as it can make doing the kitchen chores difficult.

Paring knife:

The paring knife blade should measure 2 to 4 inches and should be used to perform delicate cutting and chopping works.

Bread knife:

A bread knife comes with a straight blade and a serrated edge. It should be used for slicing bread and cutting gooey materials like tomatoes.

Utility knife:

Utility knife has a blade smaller and thinner than the chef knife. The blade measures around 6 inches and is ideally used for cutting and slicing fruits.

Carving knife:

As the name says, a carving knife is used to carve thin slices of meat. A carving knife should have a long and thin blade.

Boning knife:

Boning knife is used mostly for boning whole chicken and other meat. The blade is thin and flexible.
