AKC X-Treme EVO D/A OTF Automatic
Absolutely love this! Not my most expensive OTF, but it is my most carried. This is a modernized and upgraded version of a classic 1960s Italian knife, and it retains the awesome retro Modernist aesthetic in its handle, which is all machined aluminum. This handle shape is also extremely comfortable vs the squared off, straight rectangular handles on most OTFs. Firing action is snappy, fast and strong and the slider button is very grippy with its stepped design. The blade is also an upgraded version of the classic retro design; nicely machined full flat grind with a slight swedge. Steel is AUS8, which is on the upper end of mid-range and strikes a good balance between edge retention and ease of sharpening. More than passable for EDC use. Came very sharp out of the box. Blade play is very slight -- much better than Lightnings, EliteForce or any of the lower priced OTFs, but not as good as most Microtechs or other top-tiers. Impressive for the price! These are also available in double edge/dagger blades as well. My only complaint is that the machined aluminum scales are a bit too smooth and slick feeling. I don't know if it's their particular anodizing or what, but I wish they had a more grippy texture. That's really all I can take issue with, and it's a pretty minor complaint. Overall I think these EVOs are among the best bang-for-the-buck mid range OTFs out there; not only in their classic retro looks but materials and build quality as well. You won't be disappointed.
